Mineraltherme Böblingen draws on a real mineral spring tapped from 775 meters underground -- water that's been valued in Böblingen for centuries, long before the current facility opened in 1986. This isn't a generic modern spa built around imported water; the thermal water itself is the actual local resource the whole place is built to showcase. Everything runs on a cashless RFID wristband: at reception on the upper floor, you pay for your visit and receive a wristband that locks and unlocks your locker (you change in a private booth first) and can also be used to order food and drinks throughout the facility -- you settle up when you leave. A nice detail: buying food or drinks with the wristband actually adds time to your visit rather than just charging you, at a rate of about one extra minute per euro spent (the exact rate shifts by season). Upstairs, there are five thermal pools ranging from 31-36°C, split between three indoor pools and two outdoor ones, plus a hot and a cool whirlpool outside and a Kneipp cold-water treading facility. Monitors are mounted throughout the facility where you can tap your wristband to check your remaining time -- worth knowing these are German-only with no English option, so keep track of your start time yourself as a backup. Downstairs, reached by an interior staircase, is a full sauna and steam-room world, including a distinctive MeerKlimaSauna (sea-climate sauna) and steam bath -- this level operates as a textile-free zone, standard practice for German sauna culture but worth knowing before you head down if that's new to you. Pricing runs around €16-17 for a standard 3-hour visit, with seasonal specials sometimes extending that to 4 hours for the same price -- check the official website for current rates, since they shift with the season. Note the facility has real age restrictions: children under 5 aren't admitted at all, and anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.
